Yuhua graduated from Peking University with an LL.B. degree and a BA (Econ). She received an LL.M. degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and a Certificate of Study in Business and Public Policy from Wharton School in 2006. In 2004 and 2005 Yuhua participated in the Lord Chancellor’s Training Scheme for Young Chinese Lawyers, a program run by the English legal professions. During that period she was seconded to various law firms in London and Hong Kong. In 2006 and 2007 she worked at a New York law firm. She is triple-qualified in China, England & Wales and New York State.
Yuhua has been focusing on cross-border international practice for almost 25 years, serving both Chinese and international clients in fields as diverse as general corporate and commercial, capital markets and corporate finance, M&A, foreign inbound investment, Chinese companies’ outbound investment and internationalisation, international trade and various international projects (incl EPC), private equity and venture capital, IP strategy and general compliance, restructuring, repurposing strategy, insolvency and cross-border dispute resolutions.
She has represented clients active in a number of different industries, including financial services, investment and funds, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, healthcare and life sciences, biotech, energy/new energy, EVs, environmental protection, infrastructure, construction and engineering, consumer electronics, internet and e-commerce, digital media, entertainment, education, manufacturing, real estate, tourism, hotel management, hi-tech, telecom and others.
She has been sought after by clients, particularly for her practical, constructive and solution-oriented strategic advice in structuring complex transactions or resolving disputes, the efficient and effective handling of voluminous transaction documents, her full competence in painstaking negotiations in English, and the rare combination of legal expertise and commercial awareness to assist both Chinese and foreign clients to navigate complex business dynamics and provide insightful legal solutions in cross-border business matters.
Yuhua has been ranked in Chambers and Partners Global Guide 2024 & 2025 for Corporate/M&A (China expertise based abroad - UK). Recognised by China Business Law Journal as a member of the exclusive A-List – The Growth Drivers of China’s Legal Profession in 2024, she was also listed in the 2022 and 2020 editions of the journal’s Top 100 A-List, highlighting the top-tier private practice lawyers for China-related business. In 2023, she was ranked by LEGALBAND as one of the Client Choice: Top 15 Chinese Lawyers for International Practice. Previously, she was recommended by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2017.
Yuhua holds the qualification to serve on the board of a listed company as an independent director. She is also part of the Ministry of Justice of the PRC’s talent pool, which identifies experienced Chinese lawyers in international legal practice. She has been appointed by a regional municipality in eastern China as a legal expert for the Belt & Road Initiative and serves as an expert mediator for an international commercial mediation center. Additionally, Yuhua contributes as a Legal Expert to the EU SME Centre.
